Procrastination is one of the characteristics of being human, and all of us have instances of procrastination in our daily lives, delaying tasks for various reasons. I was fortunate enough to discover, with the support of a good coach and later through persistence in practicing, ways to reduce procrastination in my work. However, I still have a list of various daily procrastinations, and as you know, it’s incredibly difficult to eliminate this list, and perhaps even impossible. Some of these strategies are based on research into the causes of procrastination, and below I’ve included an article from the Harvard Business Review that summarizes these strategies.
Now, a personal experience: reduce the number of open cases in your mind. How many emails do you have that you read several times but keep postponing responding to? How many important financial decisions do you have in life that you think about every night but haven’t yet taken any significant action on? How many files or sticky notes are on your desk that you’ve been putting off reviewing or responding to? Take a few hours right now to address these issues—maybe today is the first day of continuous practice towards a calmer mind and a more effective career path for you.
